History of The Charles White Memorial Scholarship
The Charles White Memorial Fund was established in the 1920’s with a $10,000 gift from Charles White of Pasadena. The interest from this amount was used to further the theological education of students preparing for the Unitarian Universalist ministry. Over the years, there was some dissipation of funds; the stewardship of Jack Thiebert (Fullerton), when treasurer of the district, brought the fund back into existence and in 1981, a committee was appointed by the Board, chaired by Jack, to again solicit applications and make awards for the 1982-83 school year. The fund has continued to grow by the reinvestment of a small portion of the interest and now amounts to over $20,000.
We are currently researching the history of this scholarship – in particular its founder Charles White. If you can provide further information about Charles White, please contact the committee at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you.
